Commander Karyn Mannis - Biography

 

Commander Mannis’ career with the Sheriff’s Department began in 1977, when she attended the Department’s Training Academy as a member of Class #187. After graduating as a Deputy Sheriff, she held assignments at Sybil Brand Institute for Women, West Hollywood Station and Custody Division Headquarters. Commander Mannis was promoted to Sergeant in 1983 and was assigned to Men’s Central Jail, San Dimas Station, Crescenta Valley/Altadena Station, Contract Law Enforcement Bureau, and Internal Affairs Bureau. In 1993, she was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to Biscailuz Center, Men’s Central Jail, Norwalk/Pico Rivera Station, Undersheriff’s Office Special Projects, Internal Affairs Bureau, and Field Operations Support Services. In 2004, she promoted to Captain and assumed command of the Internal Affairs Bureau. In 2010, she promoted to Commander and was assigned to the Custody Operations Division. On October 9, 2011, she transferred to Leadership and Training Division, where she oversees the Bureau of Labor Relations and Compliance, Employee Support Services Bureau, Risk Management Bureau, Success Through Awareness and Resistance Unit, and Training Bureau.

Commander Mannis resides in Claremont. In her spare time, she enjoys running and listening to jazz, and she is a long-time Los Angeles Dodgers fan.
